At the heart of our life together, there is one very simple but life-transforming truth: “healing in community.” The members of our church are as diverse in age, nationality, and economic status as the Central Square neighborhood in which we have been present for over 100 years. What we share, however, is the experience of Christ’s healing in a broken world which brings unity in love and the conviction that this healing is available to all people everywhere at all times. This fundamental truth we have spelled out in our Core Values statement:
Cambrige First Church Of The Nazarene Core Values
As a people transformed by the mercy of God through Christ, we affirm the value of all people and strive to provide them with the opportunity to experience biblical healing in community. In so doing, we endeavor to live out both Christ’s Great Commandment (Matt. 22:36-40) and His Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20), enabling and equipping every member of our local fellowship to be a missionary committed to encouraging others to join the greater fellowship of the Body of Christ. We, therefore, commit ourselves to:
A Worship-Centered Lifestyle
As a holiness church, we believe our lives can be entirely given over to Christ, enabling us to do the will of the Father, as the Holy Spirit prompts us. Our worship includes spiritual disciplines such as praise, unceasing prayer, diligent study of the Scriptures, participation in the sacraments of baptism and the Lord's Supper, and a commitment to loving God and others. Luke 7:36-48; Deut. 6:4-9; I Thessalonians 5:12-22; Romans 12:1-2.
Growth in Giftings
In building community, we especially embrace Paul’s description of the Church as a body, made up of interdependent parts. In making disciples of Christ, we encourage all people to discover their particular gifts and to continually develop them by using them in the service of Christ and others. I Cor. 12; Luke 12:39-48; I Tim. 4:14; Eph. 4:11-16; Rom. 12:3-8.
Integrity
Our primary method of building a witnessing community is through a profound commitment to integrity, meaning that we live honestly, share our hearts authentically, confess our sins transparently, and offer one another accountability humbly. James 5:13-16.
Compassion
In order for our community to be one that provides healing, we believe that our primary response to all human need, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, must be one of compassion, because we have ourselves received the compassion of Christ abundantly in our own lives. John 8:1-8; Luke 15; Luke 4:16-21
As a body, we believe that our outreach to the world is the outpouring of our entire Christian lives. We measure our success in living out these values not by how we live them out (individually and corporately) inside the church, but by how well we carry them into the community around us.
